McKay takes a shot at revamping the Count Dracula mythos around a contemporary R-rated vampire action-comedy starring Nicolas Cage as the dark prince himself alongside a haggard Nicholas Hoult as his eponymous long-suffering “familiar” assistant. Renfield offers a mostly amusing but sadly insubstantial ninety-minute ride of literal blood and guts.

Netflix’s political drama stars Keri Russell as the titular workhouse diplomat and newly-minted US Ambassador to the UK in tightly-scripted series that balances scandalous intrigue with complex matters of international diplomacy. It’s a whip smart yet still highly melodramatic episodic thriller set mostly in beautifully decorated British office buildings and homes. Cahn impresses with her delicate balance of tones while injecting stakes into the dramatic tension of the thrilling situations dramatized.
